StayJigokudani Monkey Park

Jigokudani Monkey Park

Wild monkeys and steam rising from the valley.

In winter, the forest above Jigokudani fills with silence, snow, and warm mineral steam. This is where wild Japanese macaques come down from the mountains to bathe in natural hot springs.

There are no enclosures and no performances — just animals following their instincts, moving freely through the landscape. Visitors observe quietly, standing close enough to feel the warmth of the water and the stillness of the valley.

We recommend this trip as a slow half-day experience, especially in winter, when the contrast between snow, steam, and calm feels uniquely Japanese.
